Been busy lately with expanding our shop, doubling it's original size. (More on that in a later post). Back to building cars now though... Up next is an E39 M5 Touring. The chassis is a Titanium Silver over black Sport Package car with some pretty rare options like gloss black shadow line trim. Which makes it perfect for an M5 conversion. I've personally never seen true Shadowline trim on any E39 that wasn't an M5. It would be very expensive to piece together all the wagon specific trim in this finish, so it's nice that this one already has this essential ingredient in place that would be necessary to create a vehicle that is as much a true M5 as it can be. E39 M5 wagons aren't a new idea, but our customer is a purist, a real car guy, and he wants to have the nicest one that's ever been done. He's been waiting a long time and is willing to spare no expense to reach his goal. Like a lot of our customers, he's been dreaming of a car for many years and has finally reached a place in his life where he feels he ready to make it a reality. Because it's okay to do an easy one every once in awhile ...right? We got this E61 530XiT in pretty rough condition. Wasted engine, faded paint, leaking everything, and a number of other various issues. After replacing the original engine with a super clean fully resealed and refreshed, low mileage late N52K, we set to work on the faded paint and finally fitted some nice staggered m3/m4 style 437m 19" wheels and new beefy Bridgestone rubber sized 245/35 front and 285/30 rear. The finished result is a very nice, reliable driver with enough power to be fun. Built for sale and already gone. These took about 30 minutes for the pair from start to finish. New BMW headlights can be over $2,000 each! Yes, they are plastic, no I have no idea how they justify that price. I use the 3M products and have gotten some good results. When you're doing a complete build the "face" of the car has to look fresh, that means lights and grilles must be addressed.
